Club History

The club has hosted five Canadian National Championships in 1994, 2002, 2010, 2017, 2022, and the

Canadian Amateur Championships in 2014 and again in 2023.

The Calgary English Springer Spaniel Club (CESSC) was formed in 1969 by a number of spaniel

enthusiasts who were interested in field bred English Springer Spaniels. The CESSC is an incorporated

organization with members who are interested in in field bred English Springer Spaniels, either for

hunting, field training or both.  The Club is affiliated with the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) and runs

Field Trials and other events approved by the CKC.

The Club runs Approved Field Trials in both Spring and Fall at various locations in southern Alberta.  In

addition to these trials the club hosts training sessions and other fun events such as picnic trial and

clay shooting.

The Trial Site is a little over an hour Southeast of Calgary. Hosted at Skaar Creek Farms near Milo, AB.

Camping is available on site. Accommodations in Milo, Vulcan, Okotoks and High River are the closest

towns. The site consists of upland and wetland habitat and cover varies from knee high to thigh high

grasses, with ponds close by for water trails.

The Club meets monthly in and around the Calgary Area at members’ homes or by video conference

calls. Many volunteers are required to fill positions to ensure these trials are successful.

There is no requirement to hunt or trial with your springer. Our club provides an opportunity for training

and socialization for you and your dog. Experienced members are a wealth of knowledge of what has

worked or not worked in helping you train your dog.

Thank you for visiting Calgary English Springer Spaniel Club website.  We look forward getting to know

you at meetings and events. Please see contacts for more information.
